The NICE Guidelines (National Institute for Health and Care Excellence), used by the NHS states that people wishing to seek treatment for obesity under the NHS must fit one of the following criteria:
- A BMI +35 with other weight related illness such as sleep apnoea, heart conditions or Type 2 Diabetes; or
- A BMI + 40 if they do not have additional health related illnesses.
If you would like to be considered for NHS funded bariatric surgery with Streamline Surgical, please contact your GP and ask to be referred to Mr Somers at the Queen Alexandra Hospital in Portsmouth. Be prepared that you may be required to complete a weight management course in the first instance.
