Had my assessment in July 2011. There were a few things I had to get sorted: test for sleep apnoea & psych back-up.

Sleep apnoea was confirmed and I’ve been having treatment for about 3 months. I had a follow up with the clinic today and the person I saw said that, when I had the test, I was averaging 90 “episodes” per hour. Now the average is 2. I’m guessing this means surgery would be ok??

Psych back-up is now in place and starts on 30th Jan.

I’m seeing my GP tomorrow for a re-referral. I’m wondering if I’ll have to go for another assessment day and how long I’m likely to be waiting if St Richards give the go ahead, because my funding runs out mid-May.

Would I be able to re-apply if it gets too close for comfort?

I don’t know for sure, so don’t quote me but it sounds as if your sleep anoea is under control now and there shouldn’t be any problems. Why not give the hospital a call to put your mind at rest. They will be able to give you a more comprehensive answer as they deal with this sort of thing all the time.

Hope you get everything sorted and get the go ahead asap. Let us know how you get on ๐Ÿ˜‰

Hiya. Seems we’re further along than anticipated. I spoke to the hospital on Friday. The surgeon checked through his “in tray” the day before. I’m now waiting for a call from the hospital to advise me of the pre-assessment date. Maybe op date too??

Come on, NHS. I am sooo ready for this ๐Ÿ˜‰ ๐Ÿ™‚

    Hi there again.

Looks like things are chugging along nicely and in the right direction! Hope you hear asap and would you let us know when you find out? We all love to share in the excitement that all the pre-op stuff brings. In a weird way, it brings back all that fab anticipation and hope for a better life. Sounds daft I know, but that was one of the best bits for me.

I now have my fantastically healthier, happier life but remember with fondness, the few weeks pre op when I knew better things were coming – a bit like Christmas but magnified 1,000 times!!

    And still she waits …

Phoned up again last week and guess what? “Contractual differences” with NHS still not completely resolved so no dates being issued at the moment. Don’t know who, what or why but hope it gets sorted soon.

The NHS are undergoing huge changes at the moment and it is utterly frustrating for anyone waiting for a surgery of any kind. I hope it all gets sorted out soon for you :-/

YAY! I’m so excited on your behalf! Please keep in touch to tell us all about it. If you need any help or advice, this is the place to get it. The lovely people on this forum are so knowledgable and are always willing to offer support to anyone who needs it. I still need it almost 4 years post op as it takes quite a bit of time for our minds to catch up with our bodies. Well, that’s true in my case anyway!

Day 12 of the pre-op detox. The first week flew by and I found it soooo easy. Day 9 landed and it started to get challenging.

Day 9: felt hungry for the first time. Three pints of milk and a litre of water later, the feeling finally went away.

Day 10: bear with sore head entered building … Had my milk in the morning and flashes of roast dinners and sandwiches appeared in front of me. There was a constant stream of food in the office at work (two lots of cakes, 3 lots of buffet food left over from meetings, people filing out to the snack truck and vending machines, people eating what they’d brought in from home. Keep it coming, why don’t you … lol. There are at least 2 people with colds in my department. Every time one of them coughed or sneezed it set my nerves on end. Go away with your germs, I don’t want them! Not this close to op day.

Day 11: really wasn’t feeling it yesterday. I had a thyroid blood test (ugh, needles!). After that I spent the rest of the day feeling slightly headachy, intermittently light headed and had a funny feeling in my throat. Not sore but not right either.

Today I’m gargling like it is going out of fashion. Whatever it takes, I am fighting like stink to make sure that op happens on Tuesday.

I’m still winning with the diet. No cheating, no nothing. I got on the scales on Wednesday and had lost 11.5lbs since the pre-op assessment on 30th March.

I love this! It’s the best way to make new friends. I have made lifelong friends through having wls. It has enriched my life way more than just making me healthier ๐Ÿ˜‰
