Hi guys it’s been nearly 3 mths since I was last on here & I know I should have kept on blogging on here but was feeling so low.

Any way quick recap started my journey Oct 2011 by seeing GP, got NHS funding in Dec 2011, saw the surgeon & his team jan 2012, was told that I may have to be referred to an Eating Disorder Specialist (not what I want) but won’t know for sure about referral until after my case is discussed at the MDT, but on the plus side was told that I would be put on waiting list for a laparoscopic gastric bypass (yeah), but looking at 6 to 9 mths for the op, which I didn’t think was too bad.

As its been nearly 3 mths since seeing the Bariatric team, I think it’s time to start chasing, just to make sure I’m still in the system & if I do in fact need to see if other doctor or not!

My trouble is I hate waiting & as I’m going the NHS route it’s a waiting game, but it would be nice to know what stage I’m at in their system!

    Anyway moan over lol x

Hope everyone else is keeping well! x

    Hi

Unfortunately every hospital and every surgical team and every PCT does it different.

I also had my bypass on the NHS and was really lucky in that I was refered to a bariatric specialis hospital with the time from my first appointment to actually having my surgery was only about 12 weeks, see the NHS can’t get it right when it tries. But before my referral to that hospital I was refered to another surgeon at another hospital and their waiting list was 2 years, so you can see why I got my GP to do another referral.

I would say its about time for you to call them to see what’s happening and when your next appointment is likely to be.

I had mine at Chichester and from start to finish was about 8 weeks (NHS) but I was a very, very poorly woman.

Agree with Paul – get phoning 😉

It appears to be the same all round – no matter what you need doing. My daughter has been on the waiting list to see the immunologist since January and there’s still nothing. Meanwhile she’s failed this year at college and is suffering really badly. They don’t give a toss. I see the same bloke and he’s already done her blood tests and found she’s inherrited a lack of MBL but still she waits to see him properly. Mind you, even getting a dr’s appointment these days is a joke unless you can predict a week in advance that you’re going to be ill. The system sucks.

We have to phone up on the day to get an appointment with my GP. Trouble is, they are engaged from 08:15 till 09:00 as everyone else is doing the same! I have to use three different phones to make sure I jump into the queue. Totally ridiculous.

It’s the same at our doctors as well, if you want to see a doctor that day you have to phone at 8:30, but you have to take pot luck which doctor you see, if you need to see a particular doctor you need to wait 2 to 3 weeks.

My main doctor is on holiday this week so there’s every chance that I will get a total stranger on Friday when I go there. I know she is entitled to a holiday but we only have one regular doctor – her. Oh well. Such is life. At least I have that, I wouldn’t have if I hadn’t had my bypass!!

    Hi Chrissyd.

I’m sorry but I don’t have a clue what the waiting list times are in your part of the country. Having said that, there is no uniform waiting time in any County.

Surgery dates are dependent on many factors, including need, funding and the obvious ones like availability of staff.

Please click onto the link below to see if there is any way you can search for it yourself. I am assuming you mean wls on the NHS right?

Hope this is helpful and let us know how you get on.

    Doodah x
