Sorry everyone, I couldn’t find the original thread posted by Stacey about revealing your wls to anyone. I posted to say I had to do the big reveal soon because it would soon be news.
Well… big breath…told my sisters today and got a fantastic response. One semi-guessed what I was going to tell her (she knows me so well) and the other who could have been tricky wasn’t. No judgements, no negative comments and just whole-hearted support. Now onto my son…arriving shortly…which means things could go downhill rapidly. Glass of wine methinks!
Tomorrow will be ‘friends or no-friends day’ – thank heavens these days I feel stronger than ever about my decision. As Toni posted some time ago, ‘don’t wait for your ship to come in, swim out to meet it’.
BTW WHAT ABOUT THE AMAZING GASTRIC BYPASS PATIENT WHO SWAM THE CHANNEL THIS WEEK – now that is inspiring! Carol x

Well everyone, just sent out my ‘coming out/big reveal’ email to all friends and family about my surgery. I have told close family but not all of them and only one or two friends. I expect there will be a collective gasp all around the south-east this afternoon and a lot of hot air blowing too! It will be interesting to see who takes it well and who doesn’t – I am realistically expecting a coolness from one or two but I will just have to come to terms with this. I suspect the stigma of having surgery isn’t very different from the stigma of being fat. The big difference is that I can cope with it now that I am healthier, fitter and happy whereas before….let’s not go there! Will let you know the response. Carol x

It’s difficult to know who to tell I think most of my family will be ok with it but there are a few i’m not sure about but I think as I become more health it will be easier to cope with and I personal don’t care this is for me!

I hope all will go well with the reveal xxxx

    Perhaps I am strange,
I don’t give a hoot what anyone else thinks. It is MY life, MY body, and the only person I have to answer to is ME.

Oops, is that a bit strong?

Hope your reveal has gone down well with the people you emailed. I’m with Lorraine though, I don’t really care what other people think about my surgery, I did it for me after all 🙂
Hope you are doing well..look forward to seeing you at the tea party I hope :xx

I’ve had some really positive replies even some that were tear-inducing (knew some friends loved me unconditionally but didn’t know how much!). Only one sticky one nearer to home and he has been put firmly in his place and will forgive me in about 100 years! I have to say with this new-found ‘extra’ confidence (I have never been a shy one) I find it easier to say ‘stuff-you’ I’ll do whatever I want. So the surgery is liberating in more ways than one. P.S. Thanks for all your replies and comments – they do mean a lot despite what I have just written.
