    Hello!
I’m Karen and I’m scheduled for a gastric band this afternoon.
I’m nervous but excited at the same time. The milk diet has been tough but I got through it and am now nil by mouth! I’m looking forward to becoming part of this community and getting hint and tips from you.

Hi Karen and welcome, welcome, welcome.

Oh my life how exciting that you are having your wls this afternoon! Who is your surgeon and which hospital are you in?

Please come along here as often as you need to. There are loads of super people on this forum who are always willing (and very able) to help, advise, support and befriend you. We are all very positive people at all different stages of the weight loss journey so someone will nearly always be able to answer any questions that you might have.

Good luck and remember – be kind to yourself. We will all budge up on the loser’s bench for you…

    Hi Doodah

Thanks for such a great welcome! Guy Slater is operating on me at the Clementine Churchill Hosp in Harrow. When and what wls did you have?

I’ll try to check in daily (if not more so) and look forward to joining you on the loser’s bench!

    Hi again Karen

Oh, you lucky lady having Guy at ‘The Clem’. It’s a superb hospital and Guy is not only an excellent surgeon but a very nice man. I’m lucky enough to work with him down here on the South Coast.

I had a bypass with Shaw Somers in July 2008 and have lost 15st. Mine was done down here in Chichester. It was the fourth best thing I have ever done after marrying my husband of thirty years and having my two children. I was given about 3-5 years to live when I went along to see Mr Somers. Streamline Surgical have given me back my life but an even better one than I had before.

You can here my story on this film from You Tube. I’m the one with the very blonde hair right at the beginning (it’s a bit darker now haha.)

Please say Hi to him for me and to Elaine, the lovely Bariatric Specialist Nurse. My name is Sue Smith and I’m Streamline Surgical’s Communications Assistant by the way 😉

When you read this you will most probably be done woo hoo! Look forward to hearing from you soon.

    Hello!

Good to meet you all. Guy and Elaine were fantastic! Talented and such lovely people. Band in place and I’m now home. I feel very sore and vary crampy. Also have hellish pains from all the gas they pumped in. Am managing to eat small amounts of chicken broth and keeping all fluids down.
Your stories are all inspirational and I look forward to getting to know you as I join my new wls family.

    Hi Karen

Glad to hear you are home and all went well, you had one of the best surgeons with Guy Slater, he did my bypass 7 months ago, your gas pain will go very soon so don’t worry to much about that and also take it easy with what you are eating at the moment, because your band it not yet adjusted and you could get more in than you need, I would suggest you try to practice only eating the small amounts of food that you will be able to ear after your band fill, that will give you a couple of weeks to prepare yourself and get used to the amounts you will be able to eat after that first fill. it will be difficult I know, after all we all know why we are at this drastic stage and anything you can to help your head cope with you future eating regime will be nothing but a help to you.

All the best for your future and keep up your posts, both good and bad, there is always someone around to offer help, advice and encouragement.

    Hi Paul

Thanks for your message. I’m hanging in there but finding the gas pain extremely uncomfortable. I’m almost at a stage where I am beginning to wonder what I’ve done to my body and maybe this was a mistake. I’m mostly surviving on peppermint tea, water and chicken broth. Each time I put something into my tummy the cramping starts and I am in so much pain.
Sorry to moan – just can’t get comfortable and am in lots of pain.

    Hi Karen

Sorry to hear you are still in pain, do you have any pain meds that might help, don’t forget if you are worried you can call your team for advice, you should have been given a number to call, just in case.

Stick with it, I am sure it will be fine in a day or two, gas pain is quite common, although thankfully I found my bypass to be vertualy painless, because we blokes just don’t do pain or colds ( It’s man flue I tell you) and just to bring a smile to your face its real I tell you https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=VbmbMSrsZVQ

    All the best

Thank you all for your messages of support. I’m feeling less sore and gassy today but still uncomfortable. I had a bit of a pity party when I updated last night. It didn’t help that’s kids were upset by me being in so much pain.
Staying focused and moving around more today. Going to go for a short walk with the kids when they get home today.
So many inspirational stories here and so much support.
    Thank you

    Hi Karen.

Sorry to hear the wind pain is troubling you. The very best remedy is gentle walking. It really helps. If it persists or gets worse, phone your team. Don’t suffer in silence ok? There could be a simple remedy they could recommend like charcoal tablets?

Keep your chin up and start looking at all the new clothes you will need ;-))

    Hi Doodah

Thanks for your message. I’m gals that you are also feeling strong enough to check in! Hope all went well for you.
I’m doing better every day and spoke to Elaine today. I’m going to try to go back to work tomorrow. My job is an easy one and isn’t strenuous (not like looking after my 3 kids!)

Take it easy and rest up!

    Karen
