MemberHi from another newbie! I’ve been lurking for a while but thought I’d say hello. ๐
I am having a gastric bypass in two weeks time and therefore I started the milk diet today… I’m full of different emotions but am positive that I’m doing the right thing, I just find the thought of the op itself a bit scary.
Anyway, my name’s Kathy and I look forwards to joining in with the forum chats etc.

MemberHi Kathy welcome to the forum. It is normal to be nervous about your upcoming op. I’m sure we all felt the same before our ops. I had my bypass nearly a year ago and have no regrets at all except I wish I’d done it sooner! In fact it’s a year today since I started my milk diet. This forum has been a great source of help and inspiration for me during my weight loss journey so do feel free to ask any questions or voice any worries you have. There are lots of experienced bypassers on here. Good luck with the milk diet & bypass. Keep us updated Elaine x

MemberThanks very much Elaine. How much weight have you lost if you don’t mind me asking? I’m almost 10 stone overweight but I’d be happy if I could lose just 6 of them!

Hi Kathy and welcome to the friendliest of forums!
Don’t worry about being nervous – we all were/are! It would be very surprising if you weren’t right?
Ten stones sounds like a lot but on here we have people who have lost double, even triple that! I lost 15 and am absolutely loving my new life.
Good luck with the milk diet – it gets easier i promise you. Days 1-3 are the worst.
We are all here for you. You need never feel like you are on your own.

MemberHi Kathy I’ve lost nearly 8 stone. I have some way to go yet but I’ve gone from wearing size 26/28 to 16/18. So you have lots to look forward to.

KeymasterThat transition from the 20/30 clothes to 16/18s is one of the best feeling EVER isn’t it? It means you can shop from almost any clothes store you want to and even supermarkets. I only ever wanted to get down to a 16 (I’m short) but to be a 12/14 (depending on where I buy from and for which half of my body!) is like a dream come true.

MemberThat’s fantastic Elaine! Such a great achievement. Thanks Doodah for the kind words. ๐
I’m finding the milk diet not too bad so far but I am struggling with the oxo drink, I only managed half of it last night. Maybe I can try it with less water today or I was wondering if maybe I could have a thin Bisto gravy instead? I really don’t like Bovril or Marmite so am struggling!!

KeymasterIt’s best to just stick to the guidelines I’m afraid. Bisto gravy with have fat and carbs in it.
You could try making it stronger by adding less water but remember it will make you very, very thirsty as it is full of salt so make sure you drink the remaining amount of water to make up the difference. You can also try different flavours – chicken and lamb stock cubes or even veggie or fish ones!
You are doing brilliantly. It’s not long to go now ๐

MemberThank you! Ive 12.5 days left and counting!
Great idea about using different flavours – I have some chicken ones in my cupboard so will try that instead.

KeymasterYou’re welcome. It’s all about making the best of what you are given! I loved the chicken ones. You can also try different brands ๐

MemberThe clothes transition is really strange I go into ‘normal’ clothes shop and feel I shouldn’t be there! My brain thinks I belong in Evans. I got so used to buying bigger clothes to allow for expansion doing the opposite is really weird.

KeymasterIsn’t it ridiculous that we almost don’t feel we ‘deserve’ to shop in ‘normal’ shops?!
I still pick up size 12 and put it back thinking it won’t go anywhere near me. I honestly believe that in our heads we will always be ‘big’ regardless of what people, the scales and the mirror tell us. I still check out chairs at pubs/theatres/cinemas/restaurants and think I won’t be able to walk down the aisle of a train without turning sideways.

MemberI can’t wait to shop in regular stores!! It must be a very strange feeling after being confined to shops like Evans or plus size catalogues but wow so fantastic. ๐

It’s absolutely amazing! At first you won’t feel like you don’t ‘belong’ or ‘deserve’ it but once you realise that they may even have stuff that’s TOO BIG for you, you will feel like you have won the jackpot!
I only ever wanted to get to a size 18 (from a 34!!) and when I reached that, I was so excited I bought my first EVER purchase from Monsoon. That little cardigan is my most prized possession and I shall never part with it. It signified my return to being ‘normal’ again. It’s now 3 sizes too big but I keep it in my wardrobe to remind me of how far I have come.
I can’t wait for this to happen to you all – even you chaps! Although not sure a salmon pink cardy will be a purchase you dream about hahaha!
It’s all going to happen to you – and I for one can’t wait to hear all about it ๐
