What are the different types of bariatric surgery?
The main types of bariatric surgery also known as weight loss surgery are the gastric sleeve, gastric bypass, gastric band and gastric balloon. To be considered for weight loss surgery with Streamline you need to have a body mass index (BMI) of 30 or over.

In the UK, all medication needs to go through a strict process in order to be licensed, the same rule applies to weight loss medications. While there are many potential benefits to using weight loss medication, it is important to understand the potential risks associated with them. Read our blogs to find out more:

The most recent weight loss medication to be launched has been shown to help patients lose up to 20% of their body weight. This is the most weight loss observed to date in clinical trials with a non-surgical method. By contrast, the gastric balloon has been shown to help patients lose up to 10-15% of their body weight. However, long-term data suggests weight is regained when the balloon is removed or medication is stopped.

All diets work on the same principle of reducing your calorie intake. The problem with this is that the body responds by reducing the amount of calories you burn and increasing your hunger – the perfect combination for you to regain any weight you lose, meaning keeping off any weight you lose is extremely unlikely. The more overweight you are and longer you’ve been overweight will make it even harder for your body to override this disorder in your appetite regulation system. Weight loss surgery such as the gastric band, gastric bypass and gastric sleeve help to re-set this regulation system and so are recommended as a long term treatment for weight loss.

The amount of weight you are expected to lose from different weight loss solutions will differ depending on the type of weight loss solution and you as an individual. Browse through our weight loss treatments to find out more about the different solutions.
