Somebody once told me that margarine is only one molecule away from being plastic! I googled it and it appears to be true. That was enough to put me off so now I try to use butter instead. This works for me as I am trying to gain a couple of pounds but I use it sparingly. I have read some awful things about sweeteners as well. A friend of mine has a little dog and he raided her cupboard and ate a few cubes of sugar free jelly. He ended up a very sick pooch in intensive care with renal failure. Apparently these sugar substitutes are potentially fatal for animals. Who knew!! So if they are this dangerous to our four legged friends, it makes me think twice about what they could do to us humans.
I love to bake and am always trying to adapt recipes to fit in with my new lifestyle by using sweeteners instead of sugar. I purchased some stevia yesterday and am going to give this a try as the artificial ones terrify me now!
