Hi Pam,

Welcome! I would def contact the PCT for their guidelines re WLS (might be online?). There is a section on the Streamline site for NHS patients – not sure if that would be more help to you?

I know a few people who have got themselves to NHS surgery by seeing their local WLS surgeon as a private consultation, and then seeing if the consultant would back an NHS funded op (haven’t done this myself, but it seems to have worked!) and getting them to deal with the PCT – might be worth a try?

It can and does vary tremendously from area to area re funding, waiting times etc. Some PCTs insist on a minimum of 12 months dietary support before considering surgery. It is a mine field, so getting your GP or a consultant on your side ASAP could be hugely important.

Good luck – and don’t give up!!
