Hiya Everyone. A couple of questions. Is loads of hanging skin post weight loss inevitable? Any rough idea cost of removing it. Are there any good diet books for post op patients. I’d like to get one that tells you what you can / should eat as opposed to loads of don’ts. xxx Peter

Hi Peter

I had my excess tummy skin removed almost 6 weeks ago. I was unsuccessful at getting NHS funding but not for the want of trying (three applications!)

I had a ‘Fluer de Lys’ Apronectomy which is a massive op that removed excess skin both horizontally and vertically. Mr Bennett at the Spire, Portsmouth removed 7lbs of excess skin and I now have a totally flat tum with no overhang in which to get constant infections. The average (approx) you should expect to pay is about 6-8 thousand pounds depending on how much there is to remove and which operation you go for.

I had a few complications (mainly infections) and had to have 3 weeks off work but am almost back to fighting fit again. I can drive again on Thursday and can stop wearing the dreaded compression garment!

Hope this helps.
