Hi Patsy.

Your post has highlighted the one thing that most people don’t realise about any form of weight loss surgery – it’s not the ‘cheats’ or ‘easy way’ out of obesity. It is merely a tool with which you have to work to get the best results.

For bandsters, it takes longer because you have to find that ‘sweet spot’ where you have exactly the right amount of restriction to be able to eat a variety of healthy foods, slowly, but not too much that it’s hard to get/keep anything down. We bypassers have dumping in addition to restriction to help us to make healthy choices – bandsters have restriction only.

My friend Susan James, has lost 11st with her band and has kept it off for 4 years. Her secret: getting the restriction just right and sticking to the guidelines. Oh, and being very, very patient. I know it’s not easy (I really do) but if you can just devote one year of your life (even less for those of you with less to lose) I promise you, you will learn how to use your tool to YOUR advantage. I takes patience, commitment and a huge dollop of trust in the surgery to do it’s job.

Buy new, accurate scales so you can see every ounce coming off!!
