My experience was that I was advised, verbally, my suitability for a type of operation and whether this was viable on the day. I received, along with my GP confirmation of this about a week later. I made my choice (since I was suitable for band and bypass) fairly quickly…spoke to the coordinator for the surgeon about dates and places for op and then booked it. From start to finish it took about 6 weeks which I think is perhaps the shortest time since you need to also schedule a meeting with the hospital nurse, dietician (?sometimes) and other professionals in between. You also need to allow 2 weeks for the pre-op diet. Hope this helps…it may not be typical!
