I think most dieticians don’t recommend you take protein powders because they prefer you to get your nutrition from real food and I agree. They also worry that you will become reliant on them as a meal replacement…and again I concur on this. However, if you just use them from time to time when you are under-scoring on the protein front and to add some nutrition to a dish then I feel they have a place (although this is just my opinion and you should always take the advice of your own bariatric team). Sadly many are over-sweet and quite artificial tasting..I haven’t found a cheaper supermarket brand to my liking to date. I tend to use an unflavoured protein powder most of all to add to soups, curries, casseroles (in other words wet dishes) and also in some baking recipes because I don’t like the taste of dried milk powder.
