If only – what a nice idea…or not!!

I had an epidural for ankle surgery once, the anaesthatist was horrified that I didn’t also want a general (which was apparantly standard procedure) but I couldn’t see the point. My surgeon thought it was great and talked to me throughout (saying it made a nice change to have someone else to talk to in theatre!!). He kept pointing out things on the screen as he went along, and even gave me some pictures as a keepsake(!!), needless to say I haven’t kept them for posterity. Ankle could manage with a local, but a bypass? Hell no!!

Have also read about people having surgery using hypnotherapy instead of a general, but think that would take a very brave soul…
