Shaw Somers is wonderful! He removed my band (which was ‘fitted’ by another consultant at another hospital, which shall remain nameless). A year later he did my bypass. I do have some complications, but they are not very common at all! Like you, when my band came out, I thought, hell no more surgery for me! But when the weight started creeping back on, then flooding back on, I knew I needed surgery. I do not know a lot about sleeves, but I think that Mr Somers likes to do bypasses as they have been around for a long time, are well tested and are the ‘gold standard’ for wls. However, he will do what’s right for you and you will be so well looked after.

Like Still says, living with a bypass is sooooooo much easier than a band. I do know a couple of people who have had band to sleeve, and they seem to be doing ok. Perhaps try to get to a support group to chat to some patients?

One thing, the weight loss for a band revision is generally slower and often less than a first time bypass/sleeve. I was warned about this, not quite sure of the reasons. However, I have more than exceeded my 60% estimated excess weight loss though, I am currently at just over 110%! So I guess it comes down to the individual, we all react differently to the surgery.

Without sounding gushy, Shaw Somers is ‘the man’ and if anyone can help you, he can!
