Gastric Band
An adjustable band is placed around the upper part of the stomach, creating a small pouch above the band. When the gastric band is correctly adjusted it helps control appetite, slows eating and reduce portion size.
Gastric Bypass
The Gastric Bypass is the gold standard weight loss surgery. A small rectangular, pouch is formed from the upper stomach and joined to the small intestine. This surgery reduces calories absorbed and portion size.
Gastric Sleeve
Two thirds of the stomach is removed, leaving a smaller stomach in the shape of a sleeve. The portion of the stomach removed produces the hunger hormone, meaning there is a significant reduction in appetite.

Qualifying for weight loss surgery will depend on a number of factors including your age, weight and medical history. There is no hard and fast criteria if you are considering weight loss surgery it is important to book a consultation so that our team can confirm if you qualify and answer any questions you might have. The below guide can give you some idea if you would qualify….
- A BMI +35 with other weight related illness such as sleep apnoea, heart conditions or Type 2 Diabetes; or
- A BMI + 40 if they do not have additional health related illnesses.
