Question 6:

I was told that cognitive behavioural therapy was good for helping me change my eating habits, what is this?

Cognitive behavioural therapy or CBT as it is more commonly known, is a type of therapy that is recommended by the NHS. It is a short term therapy of 6-10 sessions. CBT therapy helps a person change the way they think and feel and the impact this has upon their behaviour. The concept of CBT therapy is that once you change your thoughts and your feelings then this will have a positive impact on your behaviour and in turn you will begin to feel and behave differently. In relation to food, if you are a comfort eater then once you have changed your negative thought patterns, you begin to feel better about yourself and then the chances are you will not need to turn to food.
