Do you think bariatric surgery is an extreme measure to take?
I think bariatric surgery offers a cure to patients with severe health problems that we fail to address in the way that we normally do. We know that people with diabetes may well, 77% I think, see their diabetes disappear. People with high blood pressure no longer need to take medication and something like 80% of people with high lipidemia see their lipid results turn to normal. 80% of people with sleep apnea are cured by bariatric surgery. What other form of intervention has that sort of impact on these chronic long term diseases which are the epidemic of our current society.
