Question 4:

After a gastric bypass do I have to take vitamins for the rest of my life?

You will need to take both a vitamin and mineral supplement in combination everyday for the rest of your life. Your ability to absorb enough vitamins and minerals is greatly reduced after the surgery and therefore taking extra micro nutrients allows more to be absorbed. You may also need extra calcium and iron as time goes on, depending on how much you can eat and this is one of the reasons why you need to see the dietitians regularly after surgery. They will see and assess your diet and make sure you are taking enough of these valuable micro nutrients.
