Question 15:

My friends have told me that I will not lose weight until my first fill which i have been told is 4 - 8 weeks post op. Is this true

It is highly likely that you will not loose much weight until you have your first or even your second fill of your gastric band. It is usual to loose a small amount of weight during the pre op phase on the milk diet, however, the band is not inflated at the time of the operation and that is why you return to normal eating and therefore need a first inflation at around four to six weeks. It is after this time that the amount that you begin to eat begins to reduce and so does your weight. However, weight loss is slow to start with. It is not like a gastric bypass and you will find that it will speed up as the band restriction gets to it's optimal point and your portion sizes really reduce. The normal rules of dieting apply.
