Question 14:

Can I eat and drink at the same time?

After a gastric bypass and a gastric band operation we advise you not to eat and drink at the same time. Eating and drinking together can cause your stomach to stretch and it can cause tension in your lower oesophagus or your gullet, which will then cause pain in your chest often coming up into your shoulder. This sort of pain is also common when you have eaten too much. Drink about 30 minutes before eating and then leave having a drink with your meal until about 60 minutes after you've finished eating. Sipping is important, do not gulp, I cannot stress that enough.
