“I
can finally look in the mirror and be happy”
At 37 years old Beth from Chichester, West Sussex was battling
her weight. After becoming painfully aware of her increasing
weight problem she realised she had to take action and had
a gastric bypass with Streamline Surgical.
“The last time I looked at my weight I was over 19 stone but after that
I hid from the problem, I couldn’t bring myself to look at the scales
anymore. The problem clearly ran in my family both my mother and my grandmother
were slim in their youth and then gained weight increasingly as they got older,
but I’d always hovered around the 13/14 stone mark.
“I really started to gain weight after a series of emotional upheavals.
With regular trips to the north of England to be close to my family and in-between
hospital visits to see my father my eating pattern deteriorated. My meals consisted
of fast food in service stations and I constantly comfort ate to deal with
the massive emotional stress. I was oblivious to the problem, it was clear
my eating had become a psychological and not just a physical issue. I was eating
for the sake of eating.
“Whilst I was still an outgoing bubbly person at work, I was suffering
terribly from back pain and felt self-conscious when I went swimming or had
to look in the mirror. After looking at a family photo I was shocked at my
size. I decided to do something about it. It was the wakeup call I needed and
I knew if I didn’t do something I would end up being overweight for the
rest of my life. I tried every diet possible with no success and felt like
there was little hope for my weight problem.
