Sleeve Gastrectomy
This is a restrictive procedure in which 85% of the stomach is removed, leaving a sleeve-like structure that limits food intake. Unlike a gastric bypass surgery, this procedure does not have a malabsorptive effect and therefore the patient can still obtain all the nutrients they need from food.
This procedure may be appropriate for patients wanting a greater degree of weight loss than a gastric band can offer. This laparoscopic procedure is done under general anaesthetic and takes approximately 2 hours. This surgery is irreversible.
