Portsmouth doc presents TV health programme
MEDICINAL diets will be put under the microscope with a new television programme being fronted by a Portsmouth surgeon.
The technique of using food as a medicine is going to be explored by TV series The Food Hospital.
Dr Shaw Somers, who works at the Spire Portsmouth Hospital, Bartons Road, Havant, and St Richard’s Hospital, in Chichester, as a specialist consultant gastrointestinal and bariatric surgeon, will be presenting the programme.
It works by inviting patients suffering from a range of medical conditions and symptoms to be prescribed specific diets.
These will then be monitored to find out if their health problems can be cured by the food they eat.
Dr Shaw will be joined by two other health experts during the eight-week series, which is due to air tonight.
Independent production company Betty has commissioned the programme.
Chief executive officer Liz Warner said: ‘Increasingly, doctors are taking an integrated approach to medicine and using diet alongside other treatments.
‘Diet has an enormous impact on our daily lives — and this series might even influence people’s shopping lists.’
