Bariatric Surgery Anaesthetists
The anaesthetists of the Streamline Surgical team play an important part in bariatric surgery. As soon as a patient is confirmed for surgery they will meet with an anaesthetist so that they receive the best care. An anaesthetist’s job is made harder with people who are larger and so it is crucial they know their patient’s medical history and anything else which may affect their job.
There are four principal Bariatric anaesthetists that work in the department; Andrew Kendall, Michael Margarson, Mark Bentley and Robert Hill. They each have great experience of large-patient anaesthesia.
Dr Andrew Kendall
Andrew Kendall is the lead consultant in Anaesthesia and Intensive Care at St Richard’s Hospital in Chichester. In conjunction with Shaw Somers, he set up the bariatric service in 1998. He has personal experience of more than 300 bariatric procedures.

Michael Margarson has been a Consultant Anaesthetist at St Richard’s Hospital since 2003. He is also the Clinical Director of the Intensive Care Unit.
