Hi Ms Ellie
I have sleep apnoea and I use a machine which allows me to sleep properly during the night. The machines record data to which the doctors can see how your breathing etc. There are different machines, either a CPAP or BIPAP. For an instance before I had the machine I would fall asleep very quickly but only have 30 minutes or less at a time.
The sleep study will either entail you using a machine at home for a period of time OR you may have to be in hospital for a day or two where they just hook up the machine and monitor you. It is nothing to worry about and will not stop you from having the op.

I have been a sleep apnoea sufferer for almost 12 years and have been on CPAP since that time. As David has said above provided it is controlled it will not affect your surgery. It is just that they need to know whether you are suffering from this as it does effect how they look after you while you are under the anaesthetic. Mark

My sleep study was cancelled for now and I am doing the 2 night Oximeter test at home (thats the finger jobby)
I shall return the meter back to the sleep clinic tomorrow, hopefully they wont take too long to check the reading.

Just thought id update this thread as the sleep clinic at East Grinstead are certainly keeping me on my toes!!!
As I mentioned on a previous post that my appointment for a sleep study was in April but the sleep clinic called with a cancellation on Tues so in a mater of 2 hrs I had an appointment with the consultant and had my sleep study the same night. I now have my CPAP machine at home. Next appointment is April. Finally for me things are moving forward.

Hi Ms Ellie, I have used a CPAP for about 12 years now and I love mine too. I was actually quite surprised to learn that a lot of people who should be using a CPAP hate them and don't use them? I can't work that one out, like I say I love mine and once you get used to the noise it makes it's great. It made such a difference to me and my quality of sleep. I do remember that in the beginning when I first started using it I too had some weird dreams. Which I found really strange because I don't usually dream at all, or at least don't remember dreaming. It has worn off though and now I seldom remember my dreams, can't remember how long it went on for though. Hadn't even thought about it for years. Just reading what you'd written brought it back to mind.
