The balloons do need to be removed after 6 months as they don't last much longer. They become damaged by the food breakdown and the natural acid environment of the stomach.

The balloon can be helpful for losing weight especially to become a healthy weight for elective surgery. It can be difficult to maintain discipline once it has been removed and so we recommend surgery for larger BMIs or those needing a permanent solution.

i have a bmi of 36, and i also would like the ballon done, which i know i will have to go private to have this done, but my concern is that it cost a lot of money,what if once it comes out the weight gos back on, or is it that the tummy gos small so you will not have to eat so much and there for maintain the weight you have lost ?

hello again , hope you dont mine me keep asking all these question, but i know i will get true answers from you , some pepole have said the bigger you are the more weight you loose when the balloon is in for the 6 months, im 13 stone 4 lb, and hopeing to loose three and half stone is this poss, i am prepared to work as hard as it takes .

i was told the balloon starts to deteriorate after the six months and needs to be replaced if needed but it is a short term thing

It is a short term thing, relatively speaking, and is often used to help obese patients to lose enough weight to be safe for major surgery.

i am having the balloon fitted on the 24th this month at St Richards and am unsure if i will be awake for this or hopefully out of it as i am not looking forward to this at all could anyone let me know if you are awake or not for this procedure
