Did anyone watch this last night on chanel 4? I sat back and just wanted to rock in the corner. How on earth can that man have thought he wasn't eating enough? How on earth can they have tried countless diets and were still ignorant to fat and calorie content. I am slowly beginning to realise that people are simply ignorant to the content of their food. I am the first to stand up and say that I DO know what I should and shouldn't eat but I DON'T put that into action - there is a difference! Yet those two people were totally in denial and didn't have a clue. It never fails to amaze me how people can say they have tried countless diets yet still don't know about calories and fat. Is this because many diets out there basically tell you what to eat each day without educating you? That man hadn't given the fat content any thought at all. I would have classed both of them as intellegent people but for the one thing that dominated their lives, they failed to educate themselves on the simple facts about food. It's no wonder this country is getting so big when people honestly don't know what they are doing wrong. Many of us know what we are doing but find it so bloody hard to change and that's why we are here.. God only knows what the answer is for them other than education, but I suppose even with that, we have landed in trouble! Still, education is 1/3 of the battle, coming out of denial is another 1/3 and doing something about it is the final 1/3 which is the hardest part.

Sorry if I have offended anyone - not meant at all.

Hi, Well I am going to do it. I have booked a Gastric Band op with Mr Somers on 7th June. I have my pre-op dietitian appointment tonight so it is all happening!!

Have read through lots of questions and answers but have one more. I am not planning on telling anyone. Not because I am embarrassed or what to keep it secret but because I want to just succeed a bit before letting people know (I am scared that I will be one of the people who it doesn't work out for). My question is , is this wise or is it better to fess up now?

So tonight, my new life begins - wish me luck!

Hi all,
I need a bit of advice, since having my bypass, three months ago, I'm having very long and awfully heavy periods that leaves me really drained of energy and not being able to exercise because it feels that I'm going to pass out, I talked to the nurse and also to my GP and they both said that this is due to the hormones change as I'm losing so much weight so fast and not to worry but it really worries me. This time I've been on my period for 13 days and is not just a little bit is as strong as the first day I'm quite scare and worry that I'm not being taken seriously and is going to be a much worst problem when they decided to do something. Please a need a bit of reassurance and I'd like to know is someone else has had a similar experience. :drama:

Thanks;

I've been doing really well. Been having liquids for 2 weeks and found it really easy.

The minute I'm told I can move onto puree my body (or head) decides it's really hungry and I want to eat everything in the fridge. I'm trying my best not to but I feel I could eat for England.

Did anyone else feel like this? Is it normal? Will it go away?

Maybe it' bandster hell kicking in. I suppose it's that inbetween time of the stomach being swollen and now being healed and 5 weeks before the first fill.

I think I'll have to go to bed soon to get out of the way of temptation.

I have text the nurse although I feel like I'm being a complete idiot and that maybe I'm doing something wrong! Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Hi guys it's been nearly 3 mths since I was last on here & I know I should have kept on blogging on here but was feeling so low.

Any way quick recap started my journey Oct 2011 by seeing GP, got NHS funding in Dec 2011, saw the surgeon & his team jan 2012, was told that I may have to be referred to an Eating Disorder Specialist (not what I want) but won't know for sure about referral until after my case is discussed at the MDT, but on the plus side was told that I would be put on waiting list for a laparoscopic gastric bypass (yeah), but looking at 6 to 9 mths for the op, which I didn't think was too bad.

As its been nearly 3 mths since seeing the Bariatric team, I think it's time to start chasing, just to make sure I'm still in the system & if I do in fact need to see if other doctor or not!

My trouble is I hate waiting & as I'm going the NHS route it's a waiting game, but it would be nice to know what stage I'm at in their system!

Anyway moan over lol x

Hope everyone else is keeping well! x

Well, after gaining 13lbs and being out of control and on a self destruct mission, I am now right in the head to tackle it again (I think). The only good thing is all my clothes still fit - dunno how! So, I started the liver reducing diet yesterday and so far so good. I just hope it will re-set everything for me again. I am off to see the head Dr. at the end of the month and they apparently have stratagies to help. I'm sure if they are that good then all the world would know about it but I will go with an open mind! The strange thing about it is, I'm ok eating boring stuff (my pre op diet was yogurt, milk and soup) so long as I don't let anything nice near my lips. I'm quite happy to cook for everyone else and not yearn for their nice food which is handy! If anything, I'm having to force myself to want to eat at the moment. Isn't it annoying that we can't get our heads into this mode more often. I guess if it were that easy, none of us would have had or needed surgery! It's still not the golden ticket though is it.

I had my gastric band in Jan '11 and although it was a slow process, I managed to loose over 2.5 stone. I had ok restriction but my weight loss was slowing down so made an appt to see my Doctor Guy Slater last month for another fill.

Having had the fill, I had my first cuppa an hour after but noticed that there was no liquid backing up after a couple of gulps. Before the fill, I would have to stop drinking for a few seconds after a couple of mouthfuls before I could drink again. Not paying too much notice, I had my usual post-fill soup for dinner and didnt notice anything different. The next day however, I noticed that foods that would normally stick didn't. This may sound odd but i felt 'stomach bloated' like I used to before my banding!

I had my appt at the Clementine Churchill/ Sudbury Clinic yesterday with Guy Slater and It seems that having had 9ml after my last fill, I only had 5ml left in the band!! I seemed to have lost 4ml in 2 weeks.

I had another 2ml put back in yesterday and unfortunately, as you'd expect, there's no restriction. Guy did mention that there was a possible leak and for me to go back in a month to recheck the water level in the band.

I am a little concerned. Can anyone please advise??

Hi Everyone,

I'm Sammy and I'm 4 days post op LAGB... I think that's what it's called! I have to say that reading your posts and comments were so helpful to me over the past few days - I thought I was completely on my own in my thoughts and feelings, and I even wondered what on earth I had let myself in for!

I feel quite daunted by what lies ahead, my decision to have the band was difficult because it signalled the end of a long term unhealthy relationship I have with food. I simply couldnt go on getting bigger and bigger! And boy, the past few days have been tough, i have felt very uncomfortable. But thanks to you folks here I can see some light at the end of the tunnel. Please feel free to drop me a line :-)

I all
I'm 10 weeks post bypass and have been doing really well up until this weekend. I have picked up what I thought was a simple viral bug but I have been sick for 4 days now and it is starting to impact on my eating. I feel absolutely exhausted and could have literally slept through the last 4days. I struggling to eat anything and I think this is impacting on my energy levels. I am being super strict about my fluids and have tried to increase my intake to over the recommended 2 litres.
I just wondered if anyone has had s similar problem and could advise me on how they have managed what I suspect is bird flu (as opposed to man flu!) and Is it normal for me to feel so exhausted!!
Thanks
Love Katy x

Hi,

I'm slimceagirl.

I have been reading EVERYTHING in these forums over the past week or so and it's been great to hear what people are going through and read answers to the kind of questions I have myself.

I am going for a "mini-consultation" tomorrow to see if I am "suitable" for the gastric band op. Fingers crossed, will be paying privately - decided it was ridiculous to spend thousands of pounds having some work done in our garden but begrudge investing money in myself and my future.

I've yo-yo'ed (is that even a word?) with my weight for most of my adult life. You name it, I will have done the diet. I have spent hours and hours researching the band op and feel ready and prepared for the hard work and look forward to adopting a new healthly lifestyle. Being able to do that without the usual demons of hunger or greed creeping in would be wonderful.

Anyway, will report back after the consultation tomorrow. Look forward to getting to know you all.

Well it had to happen didn't it, today had been one of those days, 10 weeks post op and after everything going so well today I can't eat hardly anything, everything from breakfast through lunch and dinner has left me in pain and un able to eat the whole meal and not even trying to eat more than I normally do, even tonight when I took two tiny pills I had pain, even now lying in bed typing this (how sad am I ) a couple of my incision scars are tender, and they have been fine from week one. just one of those days I hope.

Hope it's better tomorrow.

hi there.
I am due to have my bypass surgery on the 14Th. june and am trying to get to grips with buying and preparing food before hand. has anyone got any suggestions for brand products that are less than. 3% fat and sugar. E.g yoghurt, cream cheese, whey protein etc. I have bought the cook book return to slender and have started making and freezing some of the recipes.but some of the products I have never heard of like lemonade crystals and protein isolate. I thought you couldn't have lemonade?
Sorry if I am being a bit thick but I want to get this right.

So since the day of my op I have written down every single morsel I have eaten on my fitness pal. I plan to do this forever... Food diaries work for me. I'm rubbish at doing them but when I do I do better ... But on Sunday I'm going to a wedding... I had planned in my head to relax, eat a small amount of the meal ( luckily its roast turkey so easy to do protein and veg) I've asked for cheese for pud so I'm not tempted by cheesecake.... I planned to just enjoy and not worry too much... I thought I wanted to be like a 'normal' person... But the closer it gets the more I'm a little freaked out about not knowing what I've had... I have really mixed feelings about this.... Good in a way that I'm not thinking 'blow it' and pigging out... But also a little scared if I let go of my total determination for a second that will be the end and it will all go wrong... Like so many times before .... I've not lost my appetite and don't have a huge amount of restriction although I weigh everything cos if I eat too much I feel well sick... I have to tell myself to stop at every meal as I feel I can eat more but if I do I end feeling sick after 10 mins... Guess I feel a little freaked out and part of me just wants to relax for five minutes and enjoy myself for one day and another part is scared if I let go that will be it forever... Your thoughts please lovely people cx
