Shaw Somers

Shaw Somers is the original ‘Fat Doctor’, appearing in every episode from series one. Finding this a truly fulfilling role, Shaw thrives on tackling the UK’s biggest patients and seeing them transform day by day.

In addition to changing his patients’ lives the programme also aims to educate and inform the public about the obesity crisis the country is currently facing and options available to people including bariatric surgery.

Throughout each programme he operates on people in an effort to change and ultimately save their lives. With a large number of followers, he has won over many with his great charm, empathy and expertise.

He now has experience of over 2000 bariatric operations including over 1000 gastric bypasses, 600 gastric bands and 200 complex or revision procedures.

Guy Slater

Guy Slater now joins Shaw in series three of The Fat Doctor. Completely at home in front of the camera, Guy and Shaw make the perfect team to take on the UK’s obesity crisis.

Guy has found this latest series challenging yet rewarding to be a part of, and fully supports Shaw on their mission to educate the nation on obesity and bariatric surgery. His knowledge, enthusiasm and calm approach make him the perfect addition to the show.

To date, he has completed over 800 obesity surgery procedures including 400 Roux-en-Y gastric bypasses and 300 laparoscopic adjustable gastric band procedures.
